Dude, that thing was written in 2000, it talks about only one facet of society, and it doesn’t actually address the real issue of male privilege.

You’re right. The boys talked about in that article are now the men that are being laid off in numbers an order of magnitude higher than those that women are being laid off at.

Now that’s privilege!

No, the laid off are probably about 10 years older and there’s no way to know whether the layoff percentages are commensurate to the ratio of men to women in the affected industry.

I feel like posting something incredibly immature like “boys are poopyheads”.

… But I won’t.

… Seriously, though, I like individual guys but not so much the hive mind. But we could say that about people in general.

Pfeh.

(Yeah, I know, not very intellectual, but i’m out of brane for today.)

OTOH, most of the places where this particular great-floating-flamewar is currently raining doom and destruction are entering similarly-isolated, and often similarly-dated (or older), data into the debate record. So, meh, whatever.

About the only thing I’m certain of anymore in the matter of gender relations is that the world is a very big place. People I talk to seem to live in worlds completely different from the one I live in – and even if I might be willing to acknowledge that people other than me have really had experiences different from mine, there can never be a similar acknowledgment of my own experience.
