Two bike-related things

Today I learned (or rather, was reminded) that rear-view mirrors have this cool spring-loaded mechanism so that when they’re pushed forward, they just go BOING back into their original location with no harm done.

Entirely unrelated (honest!) I need to replace the left rear-view mirror on my bike. It currently looks something like this:

The crack happened when I was trying to pop the mirror off its frame to try and get at the bolt underneath, because it had gotten really really loose. You can see the temporary measure I’ve employed in the meantime in that picture of course.

I’m disappointed that the tape is not silver =(

When you can’t find duct tape at a moment’s notice, electrical tape will always do in a pinch.

Annoyingly, when I went to my local dealer to order a new mirror, they discovered that there aren’t any new mirrors left in Japan; it’ll have to be shipped over from Italy. Bah!

That is pretty annoying, I thought your bike was quite popular in Japan? Also, kind of ironic given how many Japanese scooter offerings there are that you had to get the only decent import ;-)

I think that the bike’s popularity is why Aprilia Japan ran out of mirrors. People kept breaking them!

Hopefully the next box of mirrors won’t take too long arriving.

Also, have you seen the Japanese big scoots? They all look like evil giant robots, and they’re ridiculously low down. Why would I want to ride something I can’t see over cars with?

Fair point re: big J-scoots. The Burgman is a beast and a half!
